We’re very happy to share that Amna Hashmi has joined Pillar as a Summer Associate.

From an early age, Amna knew she wanted to work in a healthcare-related field. The daughter of two physicians, Amna spent her summers growing up working as a bookkeeper in her Dad’s office, where she became passionate about the idea of democratizing access to and the quality of healthcare.

When it came time for college, Amna enrolled in the pre-med track, electing to study neurobiology at Harvard. She was convinced she was going to be a doctor…until she took an intro to computer science class her freshman year and fell in love.

She was hooked. After graduating from Harvard, Amna was about to hit “Apply” on her med school applications, when it struck her that she didn’t want to be a doctor — it was suddenly clear that she had a new way to scratch the itch to work in healthcare, by applying her software development skills to a startup in the same field.

Amna joined OM1, a Boston-based company that analyzes health outcomes from its repository of 200M+ U.S. patients linked across electronic medical records and claims, where she worked as a software developer and product manager for three years.

Before heading off to Harvard Business School this Fall, Amna decided to spend the summer learning more about another aspect of building an early-stage company — venture capital. As we continue to expand our investments in healthcare beyond PillPack, PathAI, Asimov, and GRO Biosciences, Amna brings a wealth of operating experience to our team sharing insight from her startup experience with Pillar and our portfolio companies.

When Amna’s not at work, you can find her writing “rom com” screenplays, taking improv classes, or playing soccer.

Please join us in welcoming Amna Hashmi to the Pillar team as our Summer Associate.
